Content Marketing is fast becoming a whole industry into itself. Whether you are trying to communicate to your users via email, social networks, blogs or even via website messaging, content marketing is key to user engagement.
One only need look in your inbox to see just how terribly business is failing in this pursuit. My email account is stock full of complete garbage, and I’d bet yours is too. My initial takeaway, is that the companies trying to reach me have:
1) No regard to what I may actually be interested in
2) No regard for my time
3) No level of trust
4) No interest in building a relationship with me, of course — other than a purchase
If I were to turn this even more personal — Would anyone want to spend a spare second with a person or company like this. Yet — that is what I am flooded with day and night via my email and other social channels. Companies spend countless billions in just this pursuit. Why?
Content Marketing holds at its core a belief, that if I actually engage a user with valuable information or data, they will come to see me as reputable — and yes — actually WANT to do business with me.
Content Marketing allows a company to establish:
1) Thought Leadership
2) Reputation
3) Relationships
4) Trust
5) Top of mind category behavior
So here is the big prediction — Content Marketing will be a hugely emerging category in 2012. Put on your weather gear — The Tsunami is On The Horizon.
What think you?
